Hello,
A few days ago a fellow co-worker tried to give me a turtle because
he knows what a turtle nut I am. It was a wild turtle from New Jersey
however and i made him put it back. But curiosity got the better of me
and I took a few photos cause I don't know what the little bugger is.
Now i did my own research and went on the state listings for turtles
and i can't match him up exactly with any types they have listed for
PA NJ or DE
he has a brownish carapase with yellow coloration spotts if you will
rather pronounced scutes down the center overlapping and triangular.
his plastron has dark smudges and a yellowish coloration behind. he has
orangie red bits on his neck and leggs. he has black eyes and a pointy
beak a bit like a box turtle's face his toes are a bit webbed He's
also a little stinky but i don't think he is a stink pot or a musk
This was the smallest turtle found in his yard he had found larger ones
but he only brought me a hatchling from this year i'd guess from the
size .
I've got photos to email around if you think it would help
I know I'm probably going to feel like a fool when i get the answer but
I just have to know.:-)
I'm new around here and look forward to reading great posts.
I'm 28 in PA near philly and have eight turtles and a bunny and a
hermit crab. I'm a herper but My husband won't let me own much else
I'm working on him he loves the turtles and that is a good stride.
Thanks in advance

Somehow your message got to me. :) The pictures are pretty blurry, but it
looks like a baby box turtle near as I can tell. Hatchling boxies look
quite a bit different than the adults. It's a good thing you made him put
it back because not only can they be difficult to raise, I think it's
illegal in NJ to take them from the wild. I'd have to check my own "Herp
Laws" page to be sure though.

Oh yeah I'm feel'n pretty damn stupid. Everything about himscreams
eastren box yellow spots on dark caripase and stomach coloration beaky
little face
The things that threw me off were shape of shell. and the fact he
can't close up tight all over like a adult can. silly me Duh! Well we
all can go Duh once or twice can't we.
In my defense as a turtle lover I've never seen a hatchling eastren box
before. Only adults.LOL
Thanks much
